By Students/For Students: A Digital Gateway for Mental Health – MHIF (Round 2)
Project Summary
By Students/For Students is a student engagement and access project that is centered on the creation of a multimodal digital platform that will support effective access to services, produce effective strategies for navigating treatment systems and service providers, provide real-time support for those seeking help, and map mental health and addictions-related information to college and university students and service providers in Ontario. The focus of this project is to create opportunities for students from three universities, and multiple disciplines (medical students, biomedical communications students, digital media students), to innovate their own solutions to addressing gaps in access to services and the challenges of navigating a complicated treatment and service-provider system.
Final Deliverables
Through the student engagement and innovation process the project will produce a dynamic, Crowd sourceable and updatable map, accessible across digital platforms. The map will include up-to-date information related to services such as primary care, specialized mental health or addictions services, peer support, sexual health, social services and crisis information. A student “Hack for Health” in year two will produce an open source mobile application of online resources. The digital gateway will include the new CONNEXOntario mobile application, a portal for professionals with information about services, and it will link to the CONNEXOntario’s Global Scheduling System Technology.
The project is coordinated through Health and Wellness Services at Laurentian University
