2024-2025 A Year in Review

Here are some of the great resources we have published since April 1, 2024. As always, let us know if there are any resources you would like us to create!

Staff Orientation

Beginning a new academic year can be a complex process, particularly when it comes to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of students. The New Staff Orientation page is designed to provide you with essential resources for recognizing, responding to, and assisting students who may be struggling with their mental health.

Student Orientation

Starting a new academic year can be exciting but also overwhelming, especially when it comes to managing your mental health and well-being. The New Student Orientation Package provides valuable resources to help you navigate common challenges like stress, exam anxiety, and building connections on campus.

Indigenous Post-Secondary Student Mental Health

Indigenous students are faced with numerous challenges and barriers as they move into post-secondary institutions, which are often rooted in westernized and colonial practice. This page provides an overview of resources on Indigenous post-secondary mental health.

EDIAA

EDIAA is an acronym for Equity, Diversity , Inclusion, Accessibility and Anti-racism. Ontario’s diversity is one of the province’s greatest strengths. We must understand the unique needs of students based on aspects of their identity such as race, culture, religion, physical or mental challenge, sexual orientation, etc., all of which can result in experiences of marginalization, discrimination, and unequal access to resources. The following section provides an overview of EDIAA resources available on our site.

Burnout

The experience of burnout has become alarmingly common in recent years, with it being defined as “a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed” and classified as an “occupational phenomenon” by the World Health Organization (WHO). CICMH has collated a few resources for those wishing to understand burnout from a post-secondary sector lens.

Student Facing

The last few years have been particularly difficult for Canadian post-secondary students. The pandemic, financial hardship, social isolation, and climate change are just some of the factors that have led a growing number of students to report a decline in their mental health.

Mental Health Strategies

Mental health strategies in post-secondary institutions establish practices, policies, and frameworks that intends to guide staff (front-line, managers, department heads, administrators) to promote and reach certain goals/objectives related to mental wellbeing on campus.
