Have You Lost Someone To Suicide? (Halifax)

Post-suicide support booklet for Halifax region

Suicide attempts remain the second largest category for injury-related hospitalizations. Some of these attempts unfortunately result in death. After the death of her son, Carol Cashen was inspired to combine her findings into a resource guide that could be readily accessible to parents that were faced with a similar loss.

The support booklet was developed to provide a much needed resource for families and friends who were seeking support following a youth suicide. It provides some basic, yet helpful, information about suicide, grief, depression, stigma and how to support a person who has lost a loved one. The information provided gives the reader some information about what to expect and how to cope in a healthy manner, but acknowledges that this process is different for everyone. This version of the booklet has been customized with information that relates to some of the resources available in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
