Refugee Mental Health Toolkit

The Refugee Mental Health Toolkit, is a part of the E-learning tools and Community of Practice for Refugee Mental Health project funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The toolkit is planned to be a repository of resources compiled to support service providers to appropriately respond to the mental health needs of refugees. It is meant to be an online resource providing information, ideas, tools and materials needed to be used by settlement counselors and health care providers, with clients to develop newcomer awareness of mental health issues, reduce stigma and encourage help-seeking.

The toolkit has been organized into the following eight categories:

  • Determinants of Refugee Mental Health
  • Mental Disorders Affecting Refugees
  • Vulnerable Refugee Populations
  • Mental Health Promotion
  • Working with Interpreters
  • Self-Care
  • Cultural Considerations
  • Resilience
