With an increase of 185% from 2010 to 2019, international students represent one of the fastest growing student populations in Canada. In 2019 alone the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) reported that over 498,000 international students were studying in Canada at the post-secondary level. While positive student experience continues to be a top priority for Canadian universities, international students have unique needs and face many challenges as they adjust to living and learning in Canada. As such, it is vital for institutions to ensure there are meaningful, appropriate, and culturally-responsive supports in place to better provide for the holistic well-being of their international student population.
In this workshop we will talk about:
Some of the unique challenges international students may face while living and learning in Canada
The impact COVID-19 has had on international education and the international student experience
Recommendations for building more holistic, culturally-responsive approaches to supporting international students
