Suicide Prevention Toolkit by CMHA Alberta and Centre for Suicide Prevention.

Transgender (trans) people face unique stressors, including the stress of their gender identity not being affirmed or the experience of conversion therapy practices, among others. Trans people also experience higher rates of discrimination and harassment than cisgender people. This can result in poorer mental health outcomes and a greater likelihood that they may consider suicide (Kingsbury et al., 2022).

However, because gender identity and sexual orientation are not recorded on death certificates, the exact number of the trans and lesbian, gay, bisexual people who die by suicide is difficult to determine.
