A growing body of research suggests that students attending community colleges may have higher mental health needs than their four-year university counterparts, due to a range of social determinants of health, directly impacting student success. Yet, community colleges are not well-resourced to meet these needs effectively. With no simple solution at hand, each institution must determine its own unique strategy consistent with mission and resources.

During this webinar, Dr. Sara Abelson of Temple University’s Hope Center for College, Community and Justice will share why a comprehensive public health approach is so important at community colleges and translate key findings from her recently published research on evidenced-based interventions. We’ll then review some considerations for developing a mental health strategy and hear from two community colleges about their process, emphasizing the role of population-level, clinically moderated peer support.
