Mental Health Literacy in Canadian Young Adults: Results of a national survey

Mental health literacy refers to the ability to recognize, understand and access supports for mental health concerns. This research study used national survey data to compare the mental health literacy of young adults (ages 18-24) with that of older adults (ages 25-64). The researchers found that young adults, especially men, were more likely to manage problems on their own and to seek out informal sources of help. The results support the importance of considering the unique needs and preferences of young adults in order to improve help-seeking in this age group.
