Clinical and non-clinical staff on campuses across Ontario support students while navigating and respecting their privacy on a daily basis. At times this can lead to questions and confusion. This webinar will provide them with information on:

  • How The Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA) and The Health Care Consent Act, 1996 (HCCA) apply to campuses.
  • How common campus scenarios play out play out under Ontario’s privacy and consent legislation.

Presenters

Anna Tersigni Phelan currently is the Chief Privacy, Risk and Health Information Officer at the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington since 1988.

Anna has an extensive background in developing and applying the principles of privacy and security of client records: the collection dissemination and quality of health information; and work experience regarding the transition to the Electronic Health Record specifically in the community mental health sector. The CMHA WW HIM and Information Technology Team under her leadership and guidance have successfully implemented the WW Mental Health and Addictions Partner Portal, which resulted in CMHA WW becoming a Health Information Network Provider.

Meredith Gardiner is the Director of Services, Regional at the Canadian Mental Health Association. She brings over a decade of leadership experience to the role, having worked with Children, Adolescents, Adults, and Seniors in Counselling and Treatment; First Episode Psychosis; Eating Disorders Services; Crisis Services; and Mental Health and Justice. Meredith has a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma, a designation for professionals involved in leading complex improvement projects. She has also led the organization in quality improvement. In her current role, Meredith oversees a portfolio including Here 24/7, IMPACT and Mental Health and Justice, and the Specialized Geriatric Services.
