The Centre Holds its Second Northern Regional Forum in North Bay on Campus Mental Health
The Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health (the Centre) held its second Northern Regional Forum at Nipissing University on November 6, 2018 to continue to build and encourage collaboration and partnership building between local campuses and community
Over 30 participants from seven campuses and eight community organizations from across Northern Ontario participated in round table discussions on key topics affecting their communities including indigenous mental health and the needs of international students. Participants discussed barriers as well as reflecting on successes and areas of potential collaborations.
Participants were also invited to present on their own services, to ensure better understanding of possible new referral partners and collaborations. Speakers included representatives from Nipissing University, Laurentian University, CMHA North Bay, CMHA Sudbury and the North Bay Regional Health Centre. There was also a presentation from CMHA Ontario’s Excellence through Quality Improvement Project (EQIP) team who spoke about their work in enhancing the ability of agencies within this area of healthcare to understand and apply quality improvement (QI) methods.
In all, the day was a huge success and all the participants indicated that they made a new connection at the forum.
This forum is one of a series across the province hosted by the Centre, which is housed at CMHA Ontario and strives to help Ontario’s colleges and universities enhance capacity to support student mental health and well-being.
