Balancing Individual Safety, Community Safety, and Quality of Life: How to improve interactions between police/security and people with mental illness

At an historic two-day conference in Toronto, Ontario in March 2014, co-hosted by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC), stakeholders from policing, mental health, criminal justice, and people with lived experience of mental illness came together to discuss how to improve interactions between police and people living with mental illness. This report covers the promising practices discussed and key takeaways of the conference.
