Motivational Interviewing in the Campus Context

In this webinar, we are joined by April Trewhitt of CMHA Toronto to talk to us about motivational interviewing, a person-centered counselling method that involves enhancing a patient’s motivation to change. We will review the basic principles of motivational interviewing and discuss why motivational interviewing is an ideal methodology to use with students. Problem Gambling in Post Secondary

In this webinar, we are joined by representatives of CMHA Thames Valley, CMHA Huron-Perth, as well as the Gambling Awareness Program at CMHA Saskatchewan, to talk about problem gambling among post-secondary students. This panel discussion will feature questions about the changes to Canadian laws around gambling and how that impacts students, what to look out for in struggling students, and the best way to support students with problem gambling. The session will be followed by an opportunity for audience questions.

The Campus Mental Health Action Tracker

In this webinar, we are joined by representatives of the Mental Health Commission of Canada and the Social Research and Demonstration Corporation to discuss the Campus Mental Health Action Tracker. This new tool helps mental health professionals and other campus stakeholders track their journey toward improved student mental health and alignment with the National Standard of Canada for Mental Health and Well-Being for Post-Secondary Students. Come learn about the Standard, how to use the Tracker, the benefits of using it, and how it came to be. The session will be followed by a question-and-answer period.

Evaluating Indigenous Needs on Ontario Post-Secondary Campuses

ACEs are not wild: Building resilience through a trauma-responsive lens

In this webinar we invite the Trauma Responsive Team Leads from Kingston Pathways to Education to talk to us about ACEs. Adverse Childhood Experiences (or ACEs) are experiences like physical and emotional abuse or neglect, which can cause toxic stress that significantly impacts health outcomes later in life. This session will focus on the N.E.A.R. Sciences (Neuroscience, Epigenetics, Adverse Childhood Experiences+, and Resilience) and how post-secondary staff can leverage this body of work to foster resiliency and develop stronger, consistent, and unconditionally supportive care for students.

The Campus Peer Support Pilot Project

Empowering Students to Overcome Climate Anxiety

In this webinar we are joined by two nursing professionals, Natania Abebe, a double master’s graduate in Nursing and Public Health and Raluca Radu, lecturer in the School of Nursing from the University of British Columbia, to talk about the relationship between climate change and mental health. Our guests will present an interactive resource toolkit that was developed as part of Natania’s graduate project which focused on climate change and mental health. This presentation aims to explore strategies for supporting students experiencing eco-anxiety.
